I am a laboratory technician; what are the risks?

I work in a laboratory and I perform all sorts of research, checks, etc.

There are different types of laboratory

* research laboratories

* biomedical analysis laboratories

* pharmaceutical laboratories

* laboratories for tests and checks etc.

Whatever the type of laboratory I am exposed to a large number of risks:

The main risks

Risk of pricks, cuts
I have to handle objects that may cause injuries: test tubes, blades, pipettes, syringes, etc.
I use the appropriate protective gloves.

Risk of contamination

While handling boxes or vials of cell culture, blood, viruses, etc.
I use the appropriate masks and gloves.

Risk of burns

While using the Bunsen burner, ovens, autoclave, etc.
I use protective gloves and clothing.

Risk of radiation (UV, infra-red)

I use protective goggles, screens.

Chemical risk
Risk of inhalation, skin contact, ingestion, chemical burns via the handling of numerous chemicals (ACD, CMR) and powdery substances (crystalline silica, catalyst).
I use gloves, goggles (or visors), aprons, cuffs, masks, etc.

Electrical risk, risk of explosion, fire.
Use of numerous electrical apparatuses near water sources.
Explosive substances.
I organise my work schedule and I use preventive means.
