EN 352-1: 2020 (replaces the old version of 2002) Hearing protectors. General requirements. Part 1: Ears-muffs.
This standard specifies requirements for construction, design, performance and marking earmuffs and user information.
In particular, it prescribes the sound reduction of earmuffs, measured in accordance with EN ISO 4869-1: 2018.
This standard does not deal with earmuffs intended to be mounted on head or face protection devices (see EN 352-3).
Equipment must provide minimum attenuation at high (>12 dB), medium (>11 dB) and low (>9dB) frequencies.
The standard deviations must not exceed certain levels (4dB and 7.0 dB) depending on the case.
The equipment is tested against flammability, resistance in the event of a fall (1.5 m).
The headband must not exert a force greater than 14N and the pressure of the ear cups must not exceed 4500 Pa.
The materials and construction of the equipment must not have adverse effects on the health and safety of the user.
Additional information in relation to the 2003 version concerning in particular the mean values Hm Mm and Lm as well as the corresponding standard deviations Hs Ms and Ls must be communicated.
The mean SNRm value must also be communicated and the corresponding standard deviation SRSs.
Information regarding the service life of the product.
The physical tests are carried out according to the EN 13819-1: 2020 standard and the acoustic tests according to the standards EN 13819-2: 2020 and EN 123819-3: 2020.
