EN 352-3: 2020 (replaces the old version of 2003)
Hearing protectors. General requirements.
Part 3: Earmuffs attached to head protection and/or face protection devices

This standard specifies requirements for the construction, design, performance and marking of earmuffs attached to head and/or face protection devices as well as information for the user.

In particular, it prescribes the sound attenuation of earmuffs, measured in accordance with EN ISO 4869-1: 2018.

Equipment must provide minimum attenuation at high (>12 dB), medium (>11 dB) and low (>9dB) frequencies.

The standard deviations must not exceed certain levels (4dB and 7.0 dB) depending on the case.

The equipment is tested against flammability, resistance in the event of a fall (1.5 m).

The headband must not exert a force greater than 14N and the pressure of the ear cups must not exceed 4500 Pa.

The materials and construction of the equipment must not have adverse effects on the health and safety of the user.

Additional information in relation to the 2003 version concerning in particular the mean values Hm Mm and Lm as well as the corresponding standard deviations Hs Ms and Ls must be communicated.

The mean SNRm value must also be communicated and the corresponding standard deviation SRSs.

The physical tests are carried out according to the EN 13819-1: 2020 standard and the acoustic tests according to the standards EN 13819-2: 2020 and EN 123819-3: 2020.

Due to the fact that the same model of earmuff can be fitted to different head and/or face protection devices, all the physical and acoustic requirements are applied on the basic combination and an abbreviated set of requirements only to the supplementary combinations.

It is possible to order the standards in English from BSI. (British Standard Institute).
