Elastane is known by the North American name of Spandex.
This term is a compound of the words "elastic" and "polyurethane".
It designates high elasticity yarns composed of at least 85% polyurethane.
These yarns mixed with other materials bring elasticity and comfort to the garment.
Marketing began in 1958 by Dupont de Nemours, under the name Lycra®.
