I am a plumber (heating expert); what are the risks?

I am an expert in plumbing installations (pipes, taps, boilers, meters, etc.).

I also perform maintenance and repairs on these installations.

I install plumbing elements (sinks, WCs, etc.).

I work in new buildings or buildings being renovated.

 

The risks

MSD (musculoskeletal disorders), hygroma of the knees.
Associated with the handling of heavy objects (e.g.: sinks, bathtubs, etc.) and sometimes uncomfortable working positions (kneeling, lying on the back, etc.).
I take part in posture training. 
I wear knee pads.

Chemical risk
Lead, varnish, asbestos, silica, etc.
During maintenance, repair works, I am exposed to hazardous materials. 
I have to use certain hazardous chemicals: caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, etc.
I wear a protective mask, gloves, etc.

Risk of impacts, cuts
While working in narrow, confined spaces, sometimes poorly lit, etc.
I wear a face shield or a crash helmet, which is sometimes more practical.
I have a head lamp and/or a torch.

Biological risk
Associated with interventions on premises that are sometimes dark, damp, dirty, in cellars, lofts, etc. close to stagnant waters, etc.
I wear a mask, gloves, etc.

Risk of cuts, pinching, crushing, projectiles, etc.
When cutting grooves for laying pipes, when opening walls, floors, when using cutting tools, etc.
I use gloves, goggles.

Noise
When using certain machines or associated with co-activity on building sites.
I use personal noise protection.
Risks associated with welding operations
I wear equipment appropriate to this activity (gloves, welder's mask, leather apron, etc.)

Cold
On some building sites or unheated premises (cellars, lofts, etc.).
I wear comfortable clothing (bodywarmers, pullovers, etc.). 

Tripping, slipping, etc.
During movements on building sites.
I tidy the building sites. I wear appropriate shoes. I signpost dangers, etc.
