I am a car mechanic; what are the risks?

I maintain and repair automotive vehicles, cars, lorries, trucks, etc.

I am a specialist in mechanics, engines hold no secrets for me, nor do other vehicle elements: clutch, suspension, steering, tyres, etc.

I also have sound knowledge of electronics

Risks

Chemical
Associated with handling oil, greases, solvents, when intervening on batteries, etc.
I use protective gloves (nitrile rubber) against oils and greases.

Cuts, grazes
When using cutting tools, when operating on engines, on chassis, etc.
I wear gloves against cuts, cuffs, etc.

Respiratory
Sometimes polluted atmospheres, due to escaping gases, maintenance products, dusts, etc.
I effectively air the premises. I use FFP3 masks against dusts.

Falls and slips
When movingon sometimes dirty and slippery floors. Falling into pits.
I wear safety shoes with anti-slip soles, preferably resistant to hydrocarbons.
I clad floors with anti-slip mats. I provide signage.

Noise
Associated with interventions on vehicles and the use of different machines
I use personal noise protection; headband, ear plugs

Impacts, perforations
Close to machines, engines, etc., on floors where parts may have been left behind, etc.
I am equipped with crash helmets, anti-perforation shoes, etc.

Cold
During interventions on unheated premises or exposed to the outside.
As appropriate I use a bodywarmer, warm undergarments, etc.

Hygiene
I do not keep dirty clothes (oils, greases).
I wash my hands with appropriate soaps and water

(no petrol or other products for washing hands!)

Risks associated with posture
I adopt the right postures.
I adapt the working environment to improve working positions.
