The food industry brings together a vast range of professions:
- industrial professions (agribusiness, a highly automated sector)
- craftsman trades.
I may therefore work either
* in agribusiness and be, for example:
- a production and packaging line operator (I make sure of raw material and packaging supplies, I inspect the chain, etc.)
- an operator (processor) in production (I deal directly with the production of foods: I cut, I shape, I mix, I de-bone, I de-grease, I knead, I put in trays, etc. - depending on the foods)
- inspection and quality manager
etc...
or in a more handicrafts-based trade and be
- a baker, confectioner, cheesemaker, caterer, delicatessen dealer, fish monger, etc.
The risks:
Also according to my field of activity and its characteristics, my risks can noticeably vary.
- Risks associated with the maintenance of production chains; cutting, grazing, burns, etc.
I use protective gloves, cuffs, a face shield, goggles etc.
- Risks associated with the use of utensils (knives for example) and equipment
Similar risks to the ones mentioned above.
- Risks associated with cleaning and disinfection
I use kitchen work boots, watertight gloves, overalls or an apron, cuffs
- Risks associated with the cold, with slipping
I wear clothing, gloves, shoes or boots
- Breathing risks
Particularly in the baking trade with flour dusts.
I use a filtering mask.
- Risks associated with the noise of machines, equipment.
I use hearing protection (hear-muffs, ear plugs)
- Risks associated with hygiene and product protection
I wear single-use clothing, masks, gloves, etc.

Be aware that no PPE, even when compliant with one or more standards, offers an absolute guarantee of safety and protection.
In all cases, before performing any operation that could jeopardise your health or safety, it is indispensable that you perform a risk appraisal, that you envisage all possible preventive solutions, that you draw up an emergency plan if necessary, have the required qualifications and are familiar with the safety guidelines.
For safety and hygiene reasons, PPE is always for invidivual use.
