Hearing protectors. General requirements.
Part 1: Earplugs


This standard specifies requirements for the construction, design, performance and marking of earplugs as well as information for the user.
 
In particular, it prescribes the sound reduction of earplugs, measured in accordance with EN ISO 4869-1: 2018.
 
Equipment must provide minimum attenuation at high (>12 dB), medium (>11 dB) and low (>9dB) frequencies.
The equipment is tested against flammability, resistance in the event of a fall (1.5 m).
 
The materials and construction of the equipment must not have adverse effects on the health and safety of the user.
 
Additional information in relation to the 2003 version concerning in particular the mean values Hm Mm and Lm as well as the corresponding standard deviations Hs Ms and Ls must be communicated.
 
The mean SNRm value must also be communicated and the corresponding standard deviation SRSs.
 
The physical tests are carried out according to standard EN 13819-1: 2020 and the acoustic tests according to standards
EN 13819-2: 2020 and EN 123819-3: 2020.
